Responsibility and Gender

I've noticed when there's two characters of opposite genders, the female character is always the more responsible one. For example, Cosmo and Wanda from the Fairly Oddparents (Cosmo is always suggesting stupid ideas to their godchild Timmy), Ryuk and Rem from Death Note (Rem cares more about the girl she has taken up residence with, while Ryuk dropped some magical artifact in the human world for fun), Riza and Roy from Fullmetal Alchemist (Riza stops Roy from doing irresponsible things like using fire alchemy in the rain), Han Solo and Leia from Star Wars, and etc. Any explanation for this? Your opinion?

I've also noticed the habit of female characters tending to die of disease as a plot twist (as in Trisha from FmA). Does it imply weakness?
